In collaboration with Lomans Capelle and BrandSafway, Marine Systems is managing and maintaining the National Water Monitoring Network of Rijkswaterstaat. In addition to regular maintenance (both preventive and corrective), we help Rijkswaterstaat to get and keep their locations on the required quality level. We do this by repairing deflections and implementing innovations. In 2024, we completely renewed the following measuring constructions on behalf of Rijkswaterstaat:
- Beerenplaat;
- Bernisse Zuidland;
- Krimpen aan den Ijssel;
- Lekhaven.
During regular diving inspections it was noticed that at a few locations the construction for the sensors was worn out and/or shows other deflections. We initiated to renew the complete construction at these measuring locations. After approval, additional diving inspections took place to measure the exact attachment locations of the construction and to determine the exact NAP height.
Following the additional inspection on these locations, the new constructions were produced and subsequently installed at the locations (in collaboration with Lomans Capelle and de Klerk Werkendam). Before installing the new constructions, the old constructions have been dismantled and removed.
Replacing the measuring constructions will have the following benefits for Rijkswaterstaat:
- New constructions with a long lifecycle that minimize impact on sensors and reduce the risk of data failure;
- Improvement of the health and safety conditions at the locations;
- Applying a standardized design that makes one-on-one replacements (of components) easier;
- Improving the maintenance friendliness. For example, the possibility of lifting the structure for inspection and cleaning, so that we don’t need to make use of divers (high risk) is no longer necessary;
- Carrying out the replacements consecutively, so that work is carried out more efficiently and this results in cost savings for Rijkswaterstaat.
Although a standardized design has been created, there are location-specific characteristics that mean that part of the solution has been realized per location. For example, a platform construction has been created and installed for Lekhaven. Furthermore, we installed new rubbing posts to protect the construction.
